Trial in infant's death delayed as dad shows up drunk
CALGARY - The trial for a common-law couple accused in the overdose death of their toddler daughter has been delayed after one of the accused showed up drunk this morning.
Jonathan Hope and Lisa Guerin (also known as Lisa Hope), of Redcliff, Alta., are both charged with manslaughter in the death of 16-month-old Summer Hope.
The little girl died in their home in April 2006 after ingesting a dose of methadone. The methadone is alleged to have been a legal dose belonging to the child's father.
Court of Queen's Bench Justice Earl Wilson blasted Jonathan for arriving intoxicated and then revoked his bail.
"He has lost his right to walk among us," he said.
The trial was stood down until this afternoon.
