KEVIN SMITH
Sports Anchor
Kevin was born and raised in Toronto. In 1981 at the age of 9 he auditioned and got into the Claude Watson School for the Arts, the first arts school of it's kind in Canada. For the next 5 years he focused on acting, singing, dancing, visual art and was valedictorian upon graduation. Kevin continued with the Arts program in high school, majoring in acting for 2 years before quitting the arts to take up tennis (sitting next to Olympic gold medalist and multiple major champion Daniel Nestor in chemistry class had something to do with it). Kevin trained for three years at the national tennis centre before heading to the University of Tulsa on a tennis scholarship.
During his 3rd year of university Kevin realized he wasn't going to make a living at tennis or acting, but a deep passion for sports made pursuing sports broadcasting an obvious choice. In 1996 he was hired by NBC in Joplin, Missouri. After running their news bureau in Kansas for more than a year, he decided to go after the job he really wanted, anchoring and reporting sports. In November of 1997, Kevin accepted the job of weekend sports anchor for Calgary 7 Television which is now Global television here in Calgary. It was a great decision, Kevin thinks the west is the best and is here to stay.
