Canadians are being warned not to buy or consume Hardcore Energy Bullet liquid energy drink, after a utility knife blade was found in one package of the beverage.

Health Canada announced late last week that the “product was subject to tampering.” On Sunday, the U.S Food and Drug Administration announced a recall by the drink’s manufacturer, Protica Inc., of Whitehall, Pa., saying a blade was found in a vial of the energy product.

The product is made in the United States and sold in Canada.

Health Canada said it has asked the distributor, Upper 49th Imports, to recall all the affected products from the market.

Hardcore Energy Bullet liquid energy drink is packaged in 85.7 millilitre test tube-like vials, and is available in two flavours, Blue Rage and Black Rush.

The affected lots for the Blue Rage liquid product are: 1961, 1962, and 1794. The affected lot for the Black Rush liquid product is 1963.

The FDA has also ordered a recall of another Protica product, New Whey beverages, manufactured and sold only in the United States, after a blade was found in one of the packages. No one is known to have been hurt in either incident.

Health products authorized by Health Canada will either have an eight-digit drug identification number, a natural product number or a homeopathic medicine number on the label, indicating the product has been assessed for safety, effectiveness and quality.
